    Minimum qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any Physical Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences or related field with three years of experience in a laboratory setting and basic understanding of chemical/biological safety techniques, employment of engineering, administrative controls and PPE, knowledge of applicable regulations governing safe handling of hazardous chemicals and biological materials and proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

    Knowledge of State and Federal regulations applicable to areas of responsibility

    Excellent organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

    Proficient with Word, Excel, database systems, internet access functions

    Ability to multi-task and make sound independent judgments; maintain confidentiality

    Ability to wear respirator

    Valid driver’s license

    Valid driver’s license (The Human Resources Division will request a recent drivers history report from the selected candidate of choice.  This report must come from the Department of Motor Vehicles and the fee will be paid for by the candidate.  This report will be required prior to an offer being extended by Human Resources also it must be from the state(s) which the candidate has lived in for the last three years.)

    Preferred:

    Master’s degree in Chemistry or any Physical Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences or related field from an accredited college or university with two years of experience. Ability to read, use and comprehend the Safety Data Sheets and working knowledge of chemical storage standards, hazard classification of chemical storage standards, hazard classification of chemicals and Hazard Communication Standard. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)/Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

    Responsibilities:

    This position will ensure a safe working environment on campus regarding hazardous chemicals by inspecting, inventorying, classifying, collecting and disposing of, and recording information about these chemicals according to institution needs and regulatory requirements. The duties include, but are not limited to:  maintenance of an electronic chemical database program to include chemical inventories, chemical safety data, electronic Material Safety Data Sheets, and waste disposal information; conduct laboratory safety audits and chemical storage facility inspections in accordance with regulatory requirements; responsible for collection segregation and storage of chemical waste to ensure institution maintains its EPA Hazardous Waste Generator status, and will assist in disposal of chemical waste for the institution; assist in the production of regulatory reports and institutional reports associated with chemical management and waste disposal activities; assisting in providing emergency response support, including on-call response for after hours, weekends, and holidays; assist in laboratory closure or clearance operations; developing and presenting chemical safety training to employees and/or students; developing and presenting policies and procedures associated with chemical safety and hazardous waste operations; and other duties as assigned.

    Shift: M-F/Days

    Salary:  $38,913 - $50,600

    (Salary is commensurate with the overall education and experience of the final candidate.)

    Job Summary

    Assist operations in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Train employees on general safety and hazard recognition. Monitor the health of division employees through sampling and general observation methods.

    Essential Accountabilities

    Plan, implement and modify programs to prevent or reduce occupational illnesses, injuries, deaths, and financial losses. Identify hazards and recommend changes in operating procedures to prevent accidents or financial losses.  Conducts research to identify improved methods of hazard prevention.  Coordinate loss prevention systems to include development, implementation and compliance of policies and procedures. Perform recordkeeping and compliance audits.  Compile, monitor, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to employee exposure and coordinate corrective actions when necessary.  Act as liaison with federal, state and local safety and health regulatory and emergency response agencies.  Remain current on safety, health, and loss related regulations and trends and modify Division safety programs to ensure compliance in operations.  Assist with human resources and risk management programs Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.  Comply and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, safety & training policies, procedures and requirements.

    Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor of Science degree preferred

    Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in Industrial Safety preferred

    License: Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and occupational/health laws is required.

    Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and use of the internet.

    Must have ability to work independently and problem-solve while working alone or as part of a team.

    Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under supervision of the Safety Manager, assists in analyzing, designing and administering a multifaceted safety program which recommends, establishes and maintains policies, guidelines and procedures in accordance with company, Federal Laws, and applicable local laws to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.  Provides technical knowledge to employees and managers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.  Monitors workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as approved glasses, hardhats, respirators, fall protection and clothing.  Performs base line surveys of work areas for noise, toxicity, ergonomics and other hazards. Prepares and submits Company and OSHA accident reports and monitors medical surveillance program.  Keeps record of all safety leading indicators and establishes graphs of trends and accomplishments.  Assists in the analysis of accident and injury claims data to identify trends to improve the effectiveness of safety program. Identifies problem areas, and helps develop recommendations for the improvement and abatement of hazards. Conducts, monitors and tracks safety training.  Assists in the identification and analysis of safety requirements for various operations; helps establish, maintain and review the start of safety standards and guidelines.  Makes recommendations and helps implement appropriate safety policies and procedures.  Performs other duties as assigned.

    Industrial Hygienist: Full-Time position in our Kennesaw, Georgia office for an industrial hygienist to service local, regional, and national clients. The ideal candidate will have 3-7 years of experience in noise measurements and air sampling of various types. Candidate should be able to prepare, coordinate, and operate the equipment necessary to complete the field investigation as well as strong report writing skills. Indoor air quality, mold, asbestos or lead-based paint experience, and HAZWOPER training are a plus. Short duration travel is required.

    Certified Industrial Hygienist: Full-Time position in our Kennesaw, Georgia office for a certified industrial hygienist to service local, regional, and national clients. Candidate will be responsible for performing or managing projects. Responsibilities may include preparing proposals and industrial hygiene sampling plans, working with industrial hygienists under your direction, and writing and reviewing reports. Must be capable of researching and accurately referencing standards (e.g., OSHA, ACGIH, etc.) and have a working knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are necessary. OSHA and previous consulting experience are preferred. Training skills are a plus.
