Georgia Local Section Summer Meeting

For the July 21, 2011 summer GLS meeting we have the opportunity to visit the Savannah River Site (SRS), just over the Georgia border in Aiken, SC. SRS is a key US-DOE industrial complex responsible for stewardship of the environment, the enduring nuclear weapons stockpile and nuclear materials. The site also develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat nuclear and hazardous wastes left from the Cold War.

Site security at SRS requires the following procedures for registration. First, we must limit the number of attendants to the first 25 registered. Second, registration must be completed by Friday, July 8, so that SRS has time to issue clearance badges. Because we are pre-paying a tour bus, you will need to either pay registration on-line, or mail a check to Pat Brogan (mailing instructions will be emailed following your registration). Third, we must collect social security numbers for SRS screening. To do this, we need for members to first register for the trip by July 8, and then call in their SSN, their name as it appears on their driver’s license, and their home address, to either Jenny Houlroyd (404-407-8089) or Art Wickman (404-407-8088). The correct name and home address can be provided by email, but not the SSN cannot. Again, all this must be done by COB July 8.
